Version 2.0 Lookback

The Sunil Abraham Project (TSAP) entered a new phase with the release of Version 2.0 on 17 June 2026. This page looks back at the period between 1 January and 16 June 2026, during which 695 new pages were published and significant work was undertaken across content creation, documentation, and project development.

The cycle saw the expansion of existing collections, the creation of new media clusters, substantial work on the A. M. A. Ayrookuzhiel and Centre for Internet and Society sections, and the establishment of TSAP Documentation. It also included content development initiatives such as Chaitali, while providing an opportunity to reflect on areas requiring further attention as the project moves towards Version 3.0.

This page records some of the developments, milestones, achievements, and lessons from the Version 2.0 cycle.

Content

• Between 1 January and 16 June 2026, 695 new pages were published, bringing additional publications, articles, and archival material into the project. No new portals were started during this cycle.
• We have worked on 48 new media clusters during this cycle, including Scroll.in, The Hindu, Mint, ThePrint, India Today, The Wall Street Journal, Electronic Frontier Foundation, GovTech, and others.
• Some of the notable pages published during this cycle include Surveillance Is Like Salt in Cooking, Repeat After Me, Unshackling Expression, How Ashoka Is Changing the World, Policy 50 – Mapping the Minds Behind India’s Digital Rise, Stad in het Vizier (Dutch: “City in Focus”), «Биометрические ID в Индии становятся инструментом тотальной слежки» (Russian: “Biometric IDs in India Are Becoming a Tool of Total Surveillance”), My Outsides Look Cool, My Insides Are Blue…, and Sunil Abraham on Aaron Swartz.
• On 13 February 2026, the project commemorated the 33rd anniversary of Students for Peace. During this period, several pages relating to Students for Peace were created and expanded.
• The Chaitali content development cycle was conducted between 1 March and 14 April 2026. During this period, 228 new pages were published. This recurring event played an important role in accelerating content creation during the Version 2.0 cycle.
• Significant work was undertaken on the A. M. A. Ayrookuzhiel Portal during this cycle. The 30th death anniversary of A. M. A. Ayrookuzhiel will be observed on Sunday, 29 November 2026. To mark the occasion, Sunil Abraham has planned the A. M. A. Ayrookuzhiel: 30th Death Anniversary Commemoration. Work on this initiative is ongoing, and progress is documented through the 30th Death Anniversary Bulletins, published on the 15th of every month. Three bulletins have been published so far, from 15 April 2026 to 15 June 2026.
• Some of the significant A. M. A. Ayrookuzhiel pages published during this cycle include The Role of Religion in Dalit Liberation, Christian Dalits in Revolt, The Religious Factor in Dalit Liberation, A Proposal for the Study of the Religious Heritage of the Dalits, Indian Religious Heritage and Social Transformation, and Religious Legitimation and Delegitimations of Social Relations of Power (of Caste).
• Work during this cycle included the creation of pages relating to the Centre for Internet and Society, including the Concept Note, Memorandum of Association (MoA), MoA Explainer, and several annual reports.

TSAP Documentation

• On 18 March 2026, we started TSAP Documentation and currently maintain a total of 29 documentation pages. These pages document the project’s workflows, architecture, tools, editorial practices, decisions, standards, and preservation procedures.
• Our most important documentation page published in this cycle is TSAP Foundational Principles, which records the core principles, commitments, and institutional characteristics that are regarded as fundamental to the identity of the project.
• During this cycle, we published Preservation, which documents the project’s approach to archival redundancy, backups, web archiving, repository preservation, and long-term stewardship.
• Documentation efforts also included Tools We Use, Full-Text Creation and OCR Workflows, and Learning Log, which record the software, workflows, and skills used in maintaining and developing the project.
• We published Externalised Memory, TSAP Cryptographic Signing and Verification Policy, and Acknowledgement.

Areas We Could Improve

• During this cycle, relatively less attention was devoted to TSAP Originals and Ideas and Opinions. Much of our effort was directed towards documenting, organising, and preserving existing material. While this work remains important, future cycles should place greater emphasis on publishing new ideas, analysis, reflections, and commentary on contemporary issues.
• We need to develop a social media strategy. Although a Telegram channel was launched towards the end of this cycle, we do not yet have a social media promotion or content-sharing policy. Many articles, ideas, and project milestones published during this cycle, including the milestones of 500 and 1,000 published pages, were not shared through social media channels. As a result, the project may be receiving significantly less visibility and engagement than it could otherwise achieve.
• We should gradually devote more attention to the long-term development of the project itself, including organisational structure, sustainability, resilience, and financial support. While content creation and documentation remain central priorities, strengthening the institutional foundations of TSAP will be important for ensuring its continuity, maintenance, and growth in the years ahead.

What’s Ahead

• Version 3.0 will be launched on Sunday, 29 November 2026, during the commemoration of the 30th death anniversary of A. M. A. Ayrookuzhiel. Content relating to A. M. A. Ayrookuzhiel and the A. M. A. Ayrookuzhiel: 30th Death Anniversary Commemoration will continue to be a primary focus during the next cycle.
• We will continue the creation and expansion of general articles across the project, broadening the scope and coverage of the archive.
• TSAP Documentation will continue to be developed as an internal knowledge management system. Additional attention will be given to documenting workflows, tools, decisions, standards, and project practices.
• The next cycle will also include a dedicated content development initiative focused on original writing. The objective will be to increase the publication of new articles, analysis, reflections, and opinion pieces on contemporary issues, alongside the project’s archival and documentation work.
• Most importantly, we hope the journey towards Version 3.0 will be undertaken with greater contemplation, mindfulness, and intentionality. While Version 2.0 was marked by rapid growth and the publication of large amounts of content, the next cycle should place greater emphasis on thoughtful and deliberate work, remaining focused on the purpose of the project while avoiding unnecessary distractions and diversions.
